India's independent standards and accreditation body for artificial intelligence in healthcare — ensuring that AI deployed in clinical settings is safe, accountable, and equitable.
The deployment of AI in healthcare must be earned through demonstrated safety, transparency, and accountability — not assumed through capability alone.
FEAIH — Founding Principle
The Foundation for Ethical AI in Healthcare (FEAIH) is India's first independent, not-for-profit body dedicated to establishing standards, frameworks, and accreditation pathways for artificial intelligence used in clinical and healthcare settings.
We operate at the intersection of technology, medicine, and governance — working with regulators, academic institutions, healthcare providers, and AI developers to build a trustworthy ecosystem for healthcare AI in India.
As a Section 8 company registered under the Companies Act, 2013, FEAIH is constitutionally bound to its public interest mission. We do not endorse commercial products. We do not accept funding that compromises our independence.
Developing IHAS — a rigorous, evidence-based framework for evaluating AI systems across safety, fairness, transparency, and clinical validity.
A three-tier pathway enabling AI developers and healthcare institutions to demonstrate compliance with IHAS standards through independent review.
Contributing to national policy on healthcare AI regulation, publishing original research, and building capacity among clinicians and regulators.
Standards Framework
A structured, three-tier pathway for evaluating and recognising AI systems deployed in Indian healthcare. Each tier represents a progressively rigorous level of independent assessment.
Recognition that an AI system has met baseline documentation and transparency requirements — declared intended use, training data provenance, and known limitations in a standardised format.
Independent technical validation against IHAS benchmarks, including assessment of clinical validity, bias evaluation across demographic subgroups, and robustness testing.
Full recognition — awarded to systems demonstrating sustained compliance through real-world deployment monitoring, clinical outcome tracking, and ongoing governance.
Leadership
Governed by a board committed to scientific rigour, institutional independence, and the long-term public interest of patients and healthcare systems across India.
Research & Publications
FEAIH's research is underway. Publications, perspective pieces, and policy briefs will be listed here as they are released. We are currently working on our first position paper on the regulatory gaps in clinical AI deployment in India.
